Projections on the Monument warn about climate change

Christ the Redeemer participated in the international campaign conceived by Avaaz, with projected writings at the Monument, on the evening of Thursday, 18, to alert people about climate change.

Artists such as Caetano Veloso, Dira Paes, Sérgio Marone and Fernando Meirelles embraced the cause and lent their images to the Brazilian advertising campaign that can be seen on subways, buses and vehicles of communication in Rio. Conceived by Avaaz community of online activism, the initiative brings together more than 950 national and international organizations, and dozens of celebrities of various nationalities.

In addition to the projections, on Sunday, the 21st, there will be a walk FOR the climate in Rio de Janeiro and simultaneously in other cities such as New York, Berlin, Paris and London. The Avaaz activist, Nana Queiroz explained the action:

"The Christ is an international symbol and nothing better than him to help unite humanity in favor of a cause, which will define how we live in the future."

The intention of the campaign is to ask for the adoption of energy sources 100% green by 2050. It prepares the ground for the Summit of Climate Leaders, convened by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, which will occur in New York, on September 23rd.
